How Long to Cook Frozen Vegetables
Cooking frozen vegetables is an easy and convenient way to get your daily dose of vegetables. But it’s important to know how long to cook them so they are cooked properly and don’t become too soft or mushy.
Time and Temperature
Frozen vegetables only need to be cooked for a short amount of time at a high temperature. Typically, it’s best to steam frozen vegetables for about three to five minutes, or until they are cooked through. If boiling, it usually takes about 4 to 7 minutes.
When roasting, preheat the oven to 425°F and bake for about 20 minutes. You could also microwave them on a high setting for about two to five minutes, or stir-fry or sauté them for four to seven minutes.
Notes
- Whenever possible, opt for fresh instead of frozen vegetables. They taste better and do not contain preservatives.
- Stir the vegetables halfway through cooking time to make sure they are evenly cooked.
- When cooking frozen vegetables in the oven or microwave, no oil or butter is usually needed unless otherwise specified.
Make sure to watch your vegetables closely to ensure they don’t overcook or burn. Frozen vegetables can be a welcoming addition to many meals, whether they are added to salads, soups, stir-fries, pasta dishes, or pizza. Enjoy!
